In December, 2014 Dr Power travelled to California to learn the in and outs of gum rejuvenation. While there he took time out to visit a state of the art Dental Implant Factory where we source most of the implants used in our practice.
The Implant Direct facility in Thousand Oaks on Los Angeles’ northern outskirts in California has been recently expanded and renovated. Such is the boom in the use of Dental Implants to replace missing teeth that the factory runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week to keep up with demand. The company director, Tom Stratton, was gracious enough to show Dr Power around the modern manufacturing plant and Dr Power was very impressed by the quality control and expertise of the whole operation, as well as the hospitality of the host! Both companies who provide our dental implants, Implant Direct and Nobel Biocare , are owned by the Envista Corporation – the largest dental group in the world. 
Whilst Dr Power started using implants in 1998, Dr Ikonomou and Dr Ong have also made implant dentistry a normal part of their dental practice in the past decade.
It is now a regular thing to replace a missing tooth or series of teeth with a dental implant (which resembles a tooth root) and place a crown on top of it, or a bridge on more than one, or even a partial or full denture on a series of them. It has revolutionized our approach to tooth replacement and has become more affordable over the past 20 years.Dr Power is thinking about going back to the US in the coming year, or so, to do further study in implant surgery to continue honing his surgical skills at the company’s training facility in Las Vegas.
